Porsche won the Le Mans 24 Hours race for the second year in a row as Toyota just missed out on a first victory because of a last-lap power failure. At one point Toyota's Kazuki Nakajima was 90 seconds clear but the Japanese reported a problem with under five minutes left and eventually stopped. It handed victory to the number two Porsche shared by Neel Jani, Roland Dumas and Marc Lieb.

Mo Farah breaks 34-year British 3,000m record BBC Sport. Mo Farah broke Dave Moorcroft's 34-year-old British 3,000m record to underline his form with the Rio Olympics exactly two months away. Roared on by a home support untroubled by that storm, he followed the pacemakers through the first 2,000m before hanging on over the last 600m to take a tenth of a second off that long-standing mark. His seven minutes 32.62 seconds means he now holds the British track records at 1500m, two miles, 3,000m, 5,000m and 10,000m, as well as half-marathon on the road.
