Andy Murray

'I'd love to be number one but it will be tough' says Andy Murray. I knew I must have achieved something special on Sunday because I got a hug from Ivan Lendl. It's usually just a handshake but for Wimbledon he makes an exception - and I think he might even have got a bit emotional. My mum was teasing him about it while we were on our way to the Champions' Ball, because a few people messaged us with Gifs zooming in on Ivan during the final - his eyes definitely looked a bit red and teary! I asked him: "Did you have a cry?" He said: "No, of course not. I've just got hay fever."

Dan Evans

Dan Evans can really play according to Andy Murray. Dan Evans might have made a few bad decisions in the past but he's always had the ability to play at the top level. I don't know if a switch went off in his head some time last year, but to go from being ranked below 700 to 91 in the world and playing Roger Federer on Centre Court is very impressive, and it only happens through hard work. It takes some people longer than others to work out how best to get there and he's on the right track now.

Roared on by a home support untroubled by that storm, he followed the pacemakers through the first 2,000m before hanging on over the last 600m to take a tenth of a second off that long-standing mark. His seven minutes 32.62 seconds means he now holds the British track records at 1500m, two miles, 3,000m, 5,000m and 10,000m, as well as half-marathon on the road.

Muhammad Ali

Muhammad Alis was an inspiration to sportsmen world wide says BBC Sport No sportsman has touched more lives than Muhammad Ali. No sportsman has been celebrated so widely and deeply, and none will be mourned in quite the same way. To talk of Ali as a champion heavyweight boxer is like saying the Beatles had a collective ear for melody. His skills in his chosen vocation were unmatched, but the effect they had on the world went far beyond those narrow proficiencies.
